Spring has sprung and we are rolling toward summer.  We can now enjoy the outdoors—smell the flowers, listen to birds singing—walk, run, swim, etc.  The opportunity for more outdoor activities is a great bonus for those of us who want to,and/or need to engage in more physical activity.  We can even disguise the fact we are exercising by engaging in activities such as gardening, swimming, playing in the water, etc.  Mild weather makes it easier for us to keep it moving.  Now that we have the physical activity part of our routine in place,  we should include meal plans that are conducive to weight loss or weight maintenance.  Take advantage of the fruits and vegetables available in local stores and farmer’s markets.  Consider meals that involve minimal cooking.

As diabetics we know the importance of managing and controlling our food intake.  Remember eat small and frequent meals–including two snacks daily and drinking water will aid in controlling and maintaining body weight.
