REAPING THE BENEFITS OF GRAPEFRUIT

July 14, 2010 By: Theresa Category: Healthy Living

Just a brief reminder to those who may be like me and have forgotten the positive benefits resulting from eating a half-grapefruit for breakfast.

My summer has gotten off to a bad start weight wise.  Between May 30th and July 10th I gained 8 pounds.  The weight sort of slipped up on me as I had not been weighing on a consistent basis–nor, had I been exercising.  The combination of over-eating, lack of exercise and no knowledge of the increased pounds resulted in this tremendous weight  increase. If you are like me you know  how easy it is to gain weight and how difficult it is to lose it.

I immediately committed to weighing daily and taken a careful look at what I was eating.  I also decided that I wanted to accelerate my weight loss.   So I resumed some of the practices I learned at Weight Watchers years ago.  Grapefruit and its ability to accelerate weight loss was one of the things I recalled.  Thus I added one-half grapefruit to my morning breakfast and to a few dinners.  I don’t know if this was luck or if the weight increase was a result of water retention.  But, I am pleased to report that I lost 5 pounds in one week.

HOORAY!! for the benefits of grapefruit. I don’t know if it will work for you too.  But, what do you have to lose but weight.  Have a great day.

Is Weight Control and Management Your Goal?

June 03, 2010 By: Theresa Category: Healthy Living

As we know a major step in defeating diabetes is weight control.  After a fun-filled holiday weekend one might be tempted to answer “NO” to the above question.  However, whether you were successful in maintaining your eating and drinking plan for the holiday, or not, the war continues.  You are in control.  As we all know, obstacles and challenges are frequently encountered on the roadway of  life.  Our task is to find ways to defeat or circumvent these challenges.

Give yourself a pat on the back for the successes you experienced this past week.  At the least you can congratulate yourself for being determined to get back on track .  Identify one of the challenges you faced this past holiday and determine how you will combat it on the next holiday which comes in about one month.  In my opinion the key to successful weight loss and management is planning.  Be prepared for the challenges you find most threatening.  For example, if desserts are your weakness, prepare a low calorie, low carb vesion of the dessert.

If you’re planning to be away from  home, take it with you as a hostess gift.  Upgrade your exercise routine a notch to combat the excess calories.  Include activities that involve physical movement and action in your social plan.  During the “non-holidays” leading up to and following  the holiday,be consistent in following your fitness routines.  Love yourself.  If you love you others will too.  See you on the flip side.
